Four Marks Reserves were up against Shalford who are mid table of Aldershot District League 2.
1st Half:
The win from last week came at some cost for Four Marks, as they suffered injuries to captain Bushby (shoulder) and Taylor (metatarsal) as well as Turnbull still struggling with a foot injury and still missing Samways after the car accident, this saw the Manager calling on his squad for a tough home game with Shalford.
Four Marks started well but seemed to have lost the grip in midfield that was so tight the week before.
As the game bore on, this was established, as the players quickly adapted and found their feet, the chances started to be fashioned, Hodkin and Barclay both going close.
The game felt like Four Marks were trying to push too hard, rather than relaxing and playing the easy ball, which caused a few errors going forward, and a largely untroubled back four.
The breakthrough didn’t take long, after Anderson with some excellent attacking on the left found Tongue in the box, after trying the first time finish, which bobbled, Tongue slammed home the tee up which hit the back of the net.
A deserved first half lead despite some late and worrying challenges from Shalford who left Phillips and Hodkin with sore ankles and knees respectively.
2nd Half:
The second half started much as the first had ended, with Four Marks looking by far the stronger team, with Tongue, Clarke and Hodkin testing the keeper, as well as good efforts from Phillips from outside the area, lucky deflections from the Shalford defence and some unlucky finishing left Four Marks struggling to double their advantage and leave the Manager calmer on the sideline.
As the game petered out, Four Marks kept plugging away, with Jones replacing Tongue in midfield pulling some fantastic passes out and setting Hodkin and Barclay free who couldn’t score.
At the final whistle the Four Marks team came off with a 1 nil win, dumbfounded how their 20 plus efforts on goal only amounted to a single goal.
Defensively a good sound performance, with shouts for the all of the back four to get the MOM, it went to captain Shearman, whose calm influence over the last two reserves game has told and got a vital 6 points on the board.
Team: Spooner, Aydalla, Dyer, Shearman, Mason, Phillips, Tongue, Hodkin, Anderson, Clarke, Barclay
Subs: Jones, Denness
Goals: Tongue 35’
Man of the Match: Shearman
