Four Marks Reserves up against Hawley AFC who are top of Aldershot District League 2.
1st Half:
The start of this game can only be described as disastrous, with Four Marks going 1 down after barely 5 minutes against the league leaders.
A corner into the box went uncleared , and despite time the Four Marks defence allowed the Hawley striker to poke home from close range.
The manager paced the sideline’s concerned he had set the team up wrong, but kept faith with his choices and this turned out to be a great decision.
Rather than let their head’s drop the early goal galvanised Four Marks, whose pace and power in the midfield was dominating the early exchanges, the pressure told, as Barclay, who was tormenting the Hawley defence with his clever movement, got Four Marks back in the game just before the half hour.
From a corner from Anderson, he outwitted the central defenders cutting them open for a free header which he took with ease, and was nothing more than his early effort, and Four Marks deserved. The team’s came in at half time drawing.
2nd Half:
The second half Four Marks continued to dominate, with Shearman and Phillips resilient and powerful in the midfield, putting in tough tackles to stop the flow of Hawleys game, but also showing some finesse when on the ball, finding Hodkin, Barclay and Anderson on numerous occasions, all of which had efforts saved well. Then came the breakthrough, a one-two between Shearman and Anderson in the midfield set Anderson free on the left, after shifting the ball to his right foot he fired a dipping shot at the keeper, the ball clearly moving due the power caught the keeper out as he fumbled into his own net.
This made Four Marks stronger and seemed to rile Hawley, who resorted to bickering between themselves and playing the long ball, a threat that was cleared on almost every occasion due to some resolute defending from Bushby with his head, Dyer with his strength and pace, and a quite frankly excellent overhead kick clearance that can so often go wrong by Taylor, one that he nearly got the dress award for, not to mention Noy’s backheels and Ronaldinho style passing.
Four Marks were in the ascendency, and were attacking at will, with Clarke who replaced Barclay after 70 minutes going close with a header.
Dyer then got in on the act, as he drilled a ball from 40 plus yards that moved everywhere before settling into the keeps arms.
Whilst Four Marks were by far the better team, Hawley kept hoofing the balls forward, and on the one occasion the defence was caught out, sloppy finishing and an excellent save from Spooner kept hold of the three points for Four Marks.
Then came the match changing moment. Some good build up/one touch play from all three midfielders allowed Anderson to again trade a one-two with Shearman releasing him in the middle of the park, using the defender to shield the keepers view, Anderson hit a sublime curling right footed effort right into the top corner. It was game over.
A stunning goal from Anderson who was jumped on by his ecstatic teammates.
A well deserved win for the reserves as they climb the league.
Team: Spooner, Aydalla, Dyer, Bushby, Taylor, Phillips, Tongue, Shearman, Anderson, Barclay, Hodkin

Man of the Match: Anderson (with a big shout to Shearman with two assists and Phillips who dominated midfield)
